Many of you have had some sort of experience with cancer. Maybe it was only a scare; maybe a benign growth that was easily excised. Maybe it was a friend or family member that got the news. Some of you have lost a loved one, even after helping them through their treatment, seeing their fight, their courage, the prayers, the tears. Many of us at Wind Creek have also been affected, either directly or indirectly, and we’ve found strength in one another. Over the last few years we’ve become even stronger as we’ve found ways to fight back and support the efforts to cure cancer once and for all. We’ve found that we have strength in numbers, that collectively we have an opportunity to make a real difference. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’ve created some fun activities and opportunities at all of our resorts, so we’d like you to join us in the fight!
In some instances, we’ve created game related promotions and activities, the proceeds from which will go to the American Cancer Society, so you’ll be helping just by coming in and playing. For instance, Wind Creek Wetumpka has a “Think Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Day on October 19th, with random Hot Seats from 5pm - 7pm where you can win gift packages, and free t-shirts. At Wind Creek Atmore, on Mondays through Thursdays in October we’ll be randomly calling out Fight The Cancer Hot Seats, where lucky Guests choose Breast Cancer Awareness bags and can win up to $100 FREE play. And you get to keep the bag! Also in Atmore, Wind Creek Team Members will have Pink Ribbons for sale for a dollar each, and these ribbons will be put on display in each department. Simply ask a Team Member, and you can buy as many as you’d like!
Then, on October 11th, at 6:30pm in the Sound Lounge, we will hold our 2nd annual “Dude Rock Your Heels” pageant, where gentlemen employees of Wind Creek will compete in a not-so-beauty pageant sporting casual wear, athletic wear, and yes, evening dresses! If last year’s show was any indication, it’s sure to be a blast, and a $5 donation will get you in the door. Finally, on October 21st, Atmore will host the “Kickin’ For A Cure” kickball tournament, also open to the public. Our Good To Go food truck will be there, and the proceeds from of all concessions, the pink ribbon sales, and the tickets sold for Dude Rock Your Heels will all go to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.

At Wind Creek Montgomery, this month is particularly important to Jessica Milton, our Marketing Director, and Christi Mann, our Promotions and Special Events Manager. Jessica and Christi’s mothers were each stricken with breast cancer, and each underwent double mastectomies. Happily, both have been in remission for over a decade now, but the impact lingers. Christi explains, “It’s so important to me, because cancer doesn’t pick and choose. It can affect everyone, no matter your age, race, or sex. It really means a lot to help an organization that fights something that so many people are affected by. Even our own Team Members show more support than usual, just because we all know someone fighting cancer.”
To that end, Wind Creek Montgomery is hosting a Survivor Dinner on November 14th, where for $60, you and a Guest can dine at Itta Bena, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Montgomery will also be donating all proceeds from our TITO program in September and October. Simply drop your cash out tickets into the TITO drum on your way out of the Casino, and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society’s “Real Men Wear Pink” program, which promotes early detection and prevention, funds research, and supports cancer patients right here in Alabama.
Of course, none of this would be possible without you. That’s why, when you come to Wind Creek, we want you to feel like you have found a place of happiness. Help us share the happiness, and together, we can help rid the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.
